Stainless Steel vs Nonstick - What Is The Difference?

When it comes to buying of cookware, the choice is always tough and especially when considering the benefits of stainless steel cookware vs nonstick cookware.

It is obvious that each of these different pans and pots have their own advantages and disadvantages which you should consider before making a decision but the bottom line is that they both offer great advantages when it comes to your cooking experience.

Nonstick vs Stainless Steel Cookware Difference

  • One of the main differences between these two types of cookware is that they are made from different materials. While stainless steel cookware is made from steel (as the name suggests), nonstick pots and pans are made from coated aluminum. The coating layers comes from different materials such as ceramic or teflon.
  • Nonstick cookware is light in weight while stainless steel is a little bit heavier and this has a direct implication when it comes to heat conduction.
  • Additionally, the durability of non stick vs stainless steel is also something that one might need to consider as this is highly affected by the material of use. Normally, stainless steel cookware will last for many years and especially because it does not stain or rust and even continued scrambling does not greatly affect your cookware.
  • On the other hand, the durability of nonstick cookware is determined by the quality of the material used plus your overall maintenance but eventually, the coating will wear out after some time and this will affect your cooking experience. As far as durability if concerned, stainless steel stands as the best option to consider.

Different Purposes

  • There is a difference when it comes to what you can cook or what is recommended to make your cooking experience enjoyable. Nonstick cookware is suitable for cooking foods such as pancakes, eggs and other low fat cooking.
  • Stainless steel cookware will give poor results when it comes to omelets and fried foods and especially meat.
  • Nonstick cookware also allows you to cook your food without using a lot of cooking oil and this is something to consider especially if you want to avoid too much oil.

Cleaning

  • Stainless steel cookware can easily be scrubbed using a scouring pad and other rough cleaning materials without suffering any damage.
  • On the contrary, nonstick pots are different and scrubbing them with a rough material or scouring pads will damage the coating layer thus affecting the surface of the cookware.

Price Differences

Price is also a major difference when it comes to the choice of stainless steel cookware vs nonstick cookware. With all factors put together, nonstick pots and pans a cheaper compared to their stainless steel counterparts and therefore affordable even for people on a budget.

The cost of nonstick however varies from one product to the other but you can rest assured that even the cheaper ones will give you quality cooking experience that you will appreciate.

Emeril by All Clad - My Quest For Cookware Has Ended

I loved using my stainless steel cookware set for a couple of years - that is.... until I found out that there is a huge difference between stainless steel and stainless steel the hard way....

You see the inner layer was so thin that it "disappeared" in smaller or bigger spots (see images below).... they could still be used but have a health risk as I don't know what kind of harmful chemical dissolves into my food while cooking.

This made me realize that I have to buy quality products that have long time guarantees to make sure the quality is really good.

So I set out to find a quality cookware set within a reasonable price range. I came across Zepter but found it to be extremely expensive - yet I was amazed by its quality, guarantee and the end result: the food prepared in these pans tasted delicious! - And they are a healthier option as well.

New goal set: find a stainless steel 12 piece cookware set the quality of which is very near to that of the Zepter's and it is affordable.

No luck first... I "bumped" into Amway's set which is also great AND EXPENSIVE. So kept on looking...(read my blog for details)

For a while I also contemplated getting ceramic ones as I heard a lot of good things about them, but then abandoned the idea as they can break easily and turned back to stainless steel that is a durable material and is very easy to clean.

Finally BINGO

I came across the Emeril one by all Clad featured in the image on the right. So immediately I put this cookware against my test.

Quality check: flying colors - it comes with lifetime guarantee - now I say in today's world you can get life time guarantee! Ticked

Price check: within everyday people's budget range - what's more: 50% off the original price Ticked

How well they work: heat is distributed evenly and they clean up easily Ticked

Added bonuses :
  •     these pans have flared rims for clean pouring (a feature even the Zepter ones don't have)
  •     they have tempered glass lids to monitor cooking progress
  •     can be used on gas, electric, ceramic glass, or induction stovetops
  •     can be put into the dishwasher

I was sold :) I advise you too to scroll up and click on that link - even if you only want to read more real consumer reviews.
